Dear Parents/Carers

We would like to inform you that Building Blocks Too Nursery will no longer be providing the ‘Flying start’ Service from then end of December 2020. Those currently enrolled in the service will continue their placement until it naturally comes to an end.

We have successfully enrolled families into our nursery where they have accessed a high quality of childcare that we have provided for all children for over 10 years, working alongside Flying Start for 8 years. We have given families support and our setting has had a positive impact on individual children’s learning, development, care and well being. Working with Flying Start has, in the past, provided staff with high quality training which we will continue to be embed throughout the Nursery. Our staff learn from and use the positive elements from our other nurseries and undertake training provided through the NDNA, our Healthy Preschool support and Torfaen’s childcare support officers, to name a few.

While working with FS was initially a privilege we now find that the nursery is losing its autonomy and individuality. The guidance we receive is no longer supporting our nursery as a whole. Our ethos and policies ensures that we provide equal opportunities for all of children. We take into account individual needs and most importantly we prioritise every child’s well being. Unfortunately over the last few years, FS have heavily relied upon a rigid rating scale to evaluate our service. The scale is preventing the support staff from considering the needs of all children that attend our nursery and this does not support our ethos.  Because of this, we can no longer provide FS childcare at nursery.

We are now investing in outside agencies and services to continue promoting the quality care that you expect and deserve and that we have achieved since we opened in 2009.

You will see companies such as ‘happy kids with Andrea Jones’ – a well being consultant who will teach children techniques to help with Self-esteem, Concentration, Focus, Managing their emotions, Staying calm, Positive thinking, Breathing exercises, Relaxation, Meditation, Visualisation and so much more. Andrea currently attends our sister Nursery and has made a massive positive impact on all the children; we can’t wait for her to join us at Building Blocks Too. We will be working with ASD who will attend the setting to work on ball skills, gymnastics and physical activities indoors and outdoors, this has been very successful in the past.

We are hoping to operate a gardening club where parents will be invited into nursery to work with their children to create an area for growing fruit and vegetables. We are also going to welcome parents and children from the local community (not just those booked into nursery) to help with this. We want to encourage children to learn about sustainability and hopefully we can all learn something along the way. If growing food is successful, children will be able to harvest their produce to either take home or eat at nursery.

We are also going begin a story time session. We will be inviting parents into nursery t to join in with a story session to support with children’s language development, interactions and hopefully give people the chance to meet others parents from the area. We have staff that are able to speak fluent Welsh and others that speak basic Welsh and some that have undertaken sign language training. With support from the NDNA we hope to pass this knowledge onto our parents and provide a positive social time for all.

We have recently achieved ‘Highly Commended’ in our Quality for all inspection which we have been achieving every year since starting from a ‘pass’ in 2013, ‘pass plus’ in 2015 improving to ‘Highly commended’ since 2016 which we have maintained. We are now working towards gaining our Small workplace award which we received ‘Bronze’ in 2013, ‘Silver’ in 2015 and improving to ‘Gold’ in 2016-2019 and are aiming to achieve again this year.

All children are more than welcome to join us privately as I am aware of parents wanting their child to stay at Nursery once their funding has ended, we are more than happy to accommodate this. We aim to continue to provide support for all families. We can sign post parents for financial support in the form of tax free bank accounts, assisted places through Torfaen, funded places via PACE for those who are looking to work or study. We accept payments from colleges and universities and we also offer funded care once your child reaches the age of 3.  Each will have different terms and conditions but please speak to Natasha or Chelsea for more information.

Thank you for your continued support.
